polyurethane roof sealant

The combination of polyurethane foam and a layer of GAF silicone provides a highly efficient solution that increases the energy efficiency of your roof. The foam seals cracks and provides insulation, while the GAF silicone adds protection against moisture and external elements. Why HydroStop® PremiumCoat®?

Spray polyurethane foam is a multi-component material created by mixing isocyanate (A) and polyol (B) with heat and pressure. The A and B chemicals are sprayed in liquid form and react upon contact to form a solid, lightweight, and fully adhered roofing membrane.

Although spray foam has been around for a long time, it is still relatively unknown to most facility managers and property owners. Polyurethane foam has been used in various industries and applications since the 1940s, but it wasn’t until the late 1970s that it began to be used in the construction and roofing industries due to its superior insulation qualities.

Modern spray polyurethane foam materials come in open-cell and closed-cell grades. Closed-cell foam is primarily used in commercial roofing applications, while open-cell foam is typically used for interior insulation and acoustic insulation.

HoW DOES IT WORK?

The A and B components of the SPF are mixed and applied directly on-site using specialized spray foam equipment. These chemicals, contained in separate containers, are pumped through high-pressure hoses to a mixing gun, maintaining a temperature of 115-130°F. It is crucial to ensure the proper amount of heat and pressure for a successful application.

Once the polyurethane foam dries and cures, forming a durable, seamless, lightweight, and waterproof membrane, a layer of GAF silicone is added. This GAF silicone layer is applied over the cured foam to provide additional protection against water infiltration and to ensure prolonged durability of the roofing system.

SPF offers the highest R-value (a measure of thermal resistance) of any commercial roofing material and is suitable for use in nearly all types of climates. Compared to more conventional roofing sealant options, polyurethane foam systems are installed quickly and are less disruptive to building occupants, as they are applied directly onto the roofing substrates without the need to remove any existing materials.

The GAF silicone layer provides lasting protection to the roofing system, enhancing its resistance to external elements and extending its lifespan. Additionally, when applied over the polyurethane foam, it creates an extra barrier against moisture and water infiltration damage, ensuring optimal roof performance over time.

The roofing system consists of two layers of materials that work together to provide lasting protection and enhanced energy efficiency:

1- Polyurethane Foam (SPF): This is the base layer of the roofing system. Polyurethane foam is applied in liquid form and then expands and hardens to form a continuous layer of insulation.

2- Top Layer of Silicone: A layer of GAF silicone is applied over the SPF to provide additional protection and improve the durability of the roofing system. This layer reinforces strength and helps extend the roof's lifespan.

Together, these layers of material form a highly efficient and durable roofing system.

What are the bennefits?

FAST INSTALLATION

Compared to most other conventional roofing solutions, our SPF system can be installed in a quick and minimally disruptive manner. This is because our foam spray system is applied directly onto the roof's substrate, and it doesn't require the removal of previous roofing materials.

BETTER FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

Because SPF roofing systems can be recoated multiple times, they generate very little waste throughout their lifespan. This counters concerns about the waste generated and the high costs typically associated with the removal and replacement of a roof.

HEAT RESISTANCE

Spray foam roofing insulation has the highest "R" value of any conventional roofing material. The "R" value measures a material's ability to resist heat flow. The higher the "R" value, the better the insulation.

DURABILITY

Our system provides commercial roofs with an incredibly durable protective layer.

LONGEVITY

A properly installed and maintained SPF roofing system can last 30 to 40 years, if not longer. SPF systems should be recoated every 10 to 15 years to ensure the long-term performance of the system by preventing UV radiation from the sun from degrading the foam layer.

Conclusion

Without a doubt, spray polyurethane foam followed by two layers of GAF silicone is one of the most impressive systems available in the modern commercial roofing industry. It has many qualities that other systems simply cannot match. With proper installation and routine maintenance, this roofing system could be the last roof you need to acquire for your home or commercial building.
